Translation

[Meaning] of the locusts. [So called] because they have four wings.1 And "of chicks" is said by some for "of roosters", in the Boeotian dialect.2

Notes (2)

  1. 1The headword is corrupted from tetrapterulli/dwn, "of the little four-winged ones" (tau 401), in Aristophanes, Acharnians 871; see further, next note. ↩
  2. 2On o)rtali/xwn see omicron 638. The association with Boeotian is made in the scholia to Aristophanes, Acharnians 871 (from which the entire entry is taken), because the verse is spoken by a Theban. ↩
