Translation

"Me of course, I know a scheme1 out of the Palamedes.2 Just like that man, I will write [on] the oars and throw them." Just like Oiax3 wrote [about] Palamedes to his father Nauplios on various oars and threw them into the sea, so that at least one reached Nauplios. "So where might I get oars? [What if] I were to write on these images here, instead of oars, and throw them? Much better. At any rate these are wooden and so were they."

Notes (3)

  1. For this headword (and individual) see already pi 44. The present entry quotes -- inaccurately -- Aristophanes, Thesmophoriazusae 769-755 (web address 1), with comment from the scholia to 771 there; see also pi 1702.
  2. 1po/ron; the Suda has the meaningless po/teron. ↩
