Translation

[Meaning] cessation.1
As the saying goes,2 an end of an evil [is] a greater evil.3 Hence in choosing evils one should choose the smallest.

Notes (3)

  1. See also pi 807.
  2. 1Same or similar glossing in other lexica; references at Photius pi497 Theodoridis. ↩
  3. 2What follows does not, despite this phrase, feature in the paroemiographers. ↩
  4. 3Again under phi 810. The noun has now changed to pau=sis. Jonathan Toup (1713-1785) thought it should be emended to the headword pau=la, but pau=sis appears in the version at phi 810 also. ↩
