Translation

[Meaning he] having thrown down, having dashed to the ground. "Having tripped the fellow to the ground -- despite the help he had received from his friends -- this man himself returned again to the Romans."1

Greek original · Adler’s text

Σφήλας· καταβαλών, προσουδίσας. ὁ δὲ σφήλας ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τὸν ἄνθρωπον, ἐπιβοηθησάντων ἐκείνῳ τῶν οἰκείων, οὗτος αὐτὸς πάλιν ἐπανῆλθε πρὸς τοὺς Ῥωμαίους.

Notes (1)

  1. The headword, presumably extracted from the quotation given, is aorist active participle, masculine nominative singular, of verb sfa/llw (sigma 1716, cf. sigma 1737).
  2. 1Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable. Adler notes, but does not follow, the emendation of ou(=tos to ou(/tws in the editio princeps. ↩
