*sellhni/enta.
Notes
- The headword, unattested elsewhere, has the form of a noun or adjective or participle in the accusative masculine singular or neuter plural nominative/accusative. It is most likely a corruption of the near-homonym
selhnh/enta , accusative plural neuter of a hypothetical *selhnhei/s ('moony', 'moon-like') attested only at Paulus Silentiarius, Description of the Pulpit 273 (cf. the reading in Suda ms G:*sellhnh/enta ). Alternatively, perhaps a corruption of*sellh/enta , the accusative form of Sellêeis (sigma 203 = Hesychius sigma390), the name of a number of rivers, at least one of which is mentioned in Homer (e.g. Iliad 2.659; cf. Strabo 8.3.6, etc.). For a final alternative, the word might be a corruption of a form of the verbselhnia/w ('act moonstruck') or some other derivative of the nounselh/nh ('moon'); cf. Manetho 4.546 (sehlnio/wnta ).
Adler, without explanation, ascribes the entry to the source of the Lexicon Ambrosianum.
