Translation

[Meaning] I have strength, I am able; but some [sc. say it is used] instead of sw/|zw ["I save"].1 Sophocles [writes]: "no longer do I have power [to endure] alone the counterpoising burden of grief": as if [to say], [the burden] which weighs me down, and is brought down.2

Notes (2)

  1. 1The headword is first person singular, present indicative, of the rare verb swke/w, attested in Aeschylus and Sophocles. ↩
  2. 2Sophocles, Electra 119-120, with scholion; cf. (e.g.) Hesychius (sigma3064) Apollonius the Sophist (Homeric Lexicon 148.22-22), and Photius sigma924 Theodoridis. ↩
