Translation

Meaning foreign [ones] and not appropriate;1 because being deceived [is] not native to Hellenes. Or alien, [in the sense of] things said by the foreign ambassadors. Aristophanes [writes]: "having stopped you from being overly deceived by alien words."2

Notes (2)

  1. 1Headword and glosses are dative plurals (masculine), because of the quotation which is to follow. For this adjective cf. xi 32, xi 34. ↩
  2. 2Aristophanes, Acharnians 634. The present entry draws on the scholia there. ↩
