Translation

The prison, into which they used to put rascally slaves and those freedman who revolted.¹. Isaeus in the [speech] Against Hermon Concerning a Pledge [writes]: "he threw Hermocrates into jail, alleging he was a freedman and did not release him before he had exacted thirty drachmas."²

Ἀνάκαιον· τὸ δεσμωτήριον, εἰς ὃ κατετίθεντο τοὺς πονηροὺς δούλους καὶ τῶν ἀπελευθέρων τοὺς ἀφισταμένους. Ἰσαῖος ἐν τῷ πρὸς Ἕρμωνα περὶ ἐγγύης· Ἑρμοκράτη δὲ εἰς τὸ ἀνάκαιον ἐνέβαλε, φάσκων ἀπελεύθερον εἶναι καὶ οὐ πρότερον ἀφῆκε πρὶν λʹ δραχμὰς ἐπράξατο.
