Translation

[sc. The name of] Mithridates' secretary.¹ He wrote Concerning Helen, in which he says that there is a whale-like fish called a 'Pan', and that in this [fish] a precious stone is found which lights up in the sun, and she uses it for love-charms.¹ He also wrote an Encomium of Mithridates.

Αἴσωπος, Μιθριδάτου ἀναγνώστης. ἔγραψε περὶ Ἑλένης· ἐν ᾧ φησι Πᾶνα ἰχθὺν καλεῖσθαι κητώδη. ἐν τούτῳ δὲ τὸν ἀστερίτην λίθον εὑρίσκεσθαι, ὃς ὑπὸ τῷ ἡλίῳ ἀνάπτεται, ποιεῖ δὲ πρὸς φίλτρα. ἔγραψε καὶ Μιθριδάτου ἐγκώμιον.
