['To make a claim on confiscated property'] and [sc. also attested is the phrase] 'to deposit a pledge'. When individuals1 had been condemned to have their properties confiscated, if [others] asserted that they were creditors of the [properties] being confiscated, [the laws of Athens] used to instruct these men to make a list of when and how much money they had lent; this was called making a claim on confiscated property. If however the lenders furnished pledges guaranteeing that they had not told lies about the debt, this used to be called a pledge of a deposit.
