Translation

and e)pi/thdes ["purposely"]: Attic-speakers say it both ways. Meaning in vain, necessarily, carelessly.¹ "Does not the city on purpose appoint jurors to hold office?"²

Ἐξεπίτηδες καὶ Ἐπίτηδες· ἑκατέρως λέγουσιν Ἀττικοί. ἀντὶ τοῦ μάτην, ἐξ ἀνάγκης, ἀργῶς. οὐκ ἐξεπίτηδες ἡ πόλις ἄρχειν καθίστησι δικαστάς.
