Notes (2)
- Same or similar entry in other lexica. The headword is present participle of
e)pa/|dw (contracted frome)paei/dw ), masculine genitive singular. It must be quoted from somewhere; there are extant possibilities in several Christian writers; see further, next note. - 1Assuming that the gloss should have a paroxytone accent,
farma/kou . Adler's reading (also in Hesychius) is perispomenon, farmakou= , and should mean "scapegoat." Note Psalm 57.6 LXX:h(/tis ou)k ei)sakou/setai fwnh\n e)pa|do/ntwn farma/kou te farmakeuome/nou para\ sofou= , "which will not hear the voice of enchanters or of the clever wizard making magic." Some commentators on this passage have the singular participle, so the headword for the source of the present entry could have beene)pa/|dontos farma/kou , glossed bygo/htos . ↩ - 2cf. generally gamma 364, gamma 365 (and phi 101, pi 1242). ↩
