Translation

[Meaning] I was being educated.¹ Aristophanes [writes]: "in the kitchen I was being governed with [sc. blows of the] knuckles." The [verb] h(rmotto/mhn [comes] from musical usage.²

Ἡρμοττόμην· ἐπαιδευόμην. Ἀριστοφάνης· ἐν ταῖσιν εὔστραις κονδύλοις ἡρμοττόμην. ἀπὸ τῆς μουσικῆς τὸ ἡρμοττόμην.
