Translation
And a usage of this [sc. occurs] in the [volumes] of Athenaeus.1 There too [sc. occurs] a verb nwgaleu/ein ["to eat sweetmeats"], out of which [comes] the [neuter noun] nwga/leuma ["sweetmeat"]. It seems that such things, including also the nw/gala , indicate a particular preparation useful for feasting.

Notes (1)
- The headword is masculine accusative singular or neuter nominative/accusative singular of the rare adjective
nwgale/os . Evidently quoted from somewhere, it is unglossed here but glossed in the corresponding entry in ps.-Zonaras aslampro/n ("bright/shining"). - 1Athenaeus, Deipnosophists 2.47D (2.28 Kaibel), where more precisely, as is now indicated, words related to the headword are noted (and quotations from comedy given). ↩
