Notes
- Likewise in the Synagoge (phi187) and Photius' Lexicon (phi284 Theodoridis). The headword is the aorist active participle of
foru/ssw , masculine nominative plural. (The present tense does not occur in the active voice.) It is apparently quoted from Hippocrates, On ancient medicine 3.28, where it is a step in the process of making bread (web address 1). Galen (in Linguarum seu dictionum exoletarum Hippocratis explicatio) glosses it withfura/santes "having mixed"; Hesychius phi798 withsugxe/antes, molu/nantes "having poured together, having defiled".
