Translation

[Meaning] heat in winter.1
Also [sc. attested is the genitive plural] fw/dwn, [meaning] blisters. "Out of a bath-house" because the poor, lacking clothing, sleep in bath-houses because of the cold and get blisters.2

Notes (2)

  1. 1Apparently here (and in the parallel entry in ps.-Zonaras) as a neuter singular, but otherwise unattested as such. (In ps.-Z. the gloss is simply 'heat'.) ↩
  2. 2From the scholia to Aristophanes, Plutus [Wealth] 535, where this genitive plural occurs (in the rhetorical question "For what good could you procure, except burn-blisters out of a bath-house?"). This could be the genitive plural of fwi/+s, fw/|s (phi 634). See web address 1. ↩
