Translation
[Meaning] they encircled. "But the Romans, being encircled by the barbarians and having broken the formation into centuries, outflanked those who were flanking them. Thus quicker than breath they enfolded them and having closed them in brought them all down with javelins, demonstrating in one day both the way to escape an encirclement and how to encircle through an abundance of courage."1
