Meaning you are gaining victory over me with deceits and flatteries. Or with imitations; since these were what [the sausage-seller] had done.

Greek original · Adler’s text

Notes

  1. The headword phrase is a slimmed-down version of Aristophanes, Knights 887 (web address 1), and the gloss comes from the scholia there. For monkeys -- or apes -- and their cognates cf. pi 1575, pi 1577, pi 1578, pi 1579, pi 1580, pi 1581, pi 1582.
