- Aristophanes, Knights 1049 (web address 1), with explanation from the scholia there; cf. generally pi 1847, pi 1848.
For the rare adjective 'five-tubed' cf. Polyeuktos on the paralysed Speusippos in Aristotle, Rhetoric 1411a22: fortune had bound him 'in a five-tubed disease'.
