Translation

[Referring to] a wild-beast-charmer. David [says]: "she is drugged, drugged by a skilled man."1 As the [phrase] "they are skilled in evildoing".2 Also, "Where [is] a wise man? Where [is] a scribe?"3 For he is not naming those who are truly wise, but those whom some think to be.

Notes (3)

  1. The entry follows -- with some freedom -- Theodoret (PG 80.1297ab) on Psalm 57:6 LXX. See further, next note.
  2. 1Thus the Suda's version of the verse, but it is garbled: farmakou=tai farmakeuome/nh should be the duller farma/kou te farmakeuome/nou. ↩
  3. 2Jeremiah 4:22 LXX. ↩
  4. 31 Corinthians 1:20. ↩
