Notes (2)

  1. The headword is the aorist middle participle, masculine singular nominative, of staqma/w (extracted from the quotation given), glossed with the corresponding active participle of dokima/zw.
  2. 1For similar glossings of different forms of this verb see sigma 995 (= Synagoge sigma192, Photius sigma495 Theodoridis) and sigma 986. ↩
  3. 2A close approximation of Herodotus 9.37.2 (via the Excerpta of Constantine Porphyrogenitus, in Adler's view), on the diviner Hegesistratus' escape from Spartan custody (web address 1). This version of the passage contains an otherwise unattested form e)leleu/setai, ostensibly a future based on the perfect stem of elq- ['go', 'come'], standing in place of Herodotus' original e)celeu/setai ['go/come out']. As to the headword participle itself, the OCT (Hude) prints the transmitted staqmhsa/menos, but the Budé edition (Legrand) emends to staqmwsa/menos ['weighing', 'judging']. ↩
