Translation
A vessel at Athens, which used to be sent annually to Delos; after Theseus had prayed, when he went away to Crete1, [the] Athenians used to send it out every year; and it was not permitted to carry out any sentence of death before its return. This is the reason why Socrates too was bound in prison for a long time, until the moment the theoris came back.2
