Translation

[Meaning something] surprising. Aristophanes in Plutus [writes]: "o you wretched pair of manikins, you dare to perform a deed hasty and unholy and unlawful”.1
And Sophocles [writes]: "I would not on any account buy a mortal who is heated with empty hopes".2

Notes (2)

  1. The headword adjective, neuter singular, is extracted from the quotation given.
  2. 1Aristophanes, Plutus [Wealth] 415-416, with scholion. ↩
  3. 2Sophocles, Ajax 477-478, using a verb (cf. theta 233 gloss) related to the headword; again at pi 2272. ↩
