Translation

"For [sooner] might someone count all the [sc. grains of] sand than the number of people this man killed. Calculating the territory, made devoid of its inhabitants, I say that ten thousand ten thousands of ten thousands perished".

Notes

  1. An approximation of Procopius, Secret History 18.4 (web address 1), on Justinian (cf. iota 446 generally); cf. Kaldellis (81). The headword is the neuter accusative singular comparative of taxu/s, used adverbially: cf. tau 199. This entry is out of alphabetical order.
