Notes (2)

  1. The headword is accusative plural, evidently quoted from somewhere --not (despite the impression given), the Thucydidean phrase proffered, which is nominative plural in the original. Perhaps, rather, the very similar one in Procopius, History of the Wars of Justinian 8.8.20 (web address 1); cf. Kaldellis (478).
  2. 1Thucydides 3.97.3 (web address 2); cf. upsilon 141. ↩
  3. 2Agathias, Histories 2.21 (68.12-13). Agathias describes the panicked Roman retreat (555 CE) from the area around Telephis (in Lazike/Kolchis, cf. alpha 3484 note) as the Persian army led by Mihr-Mihroe (Mermeroes in Greek; mu 637) advanced; cf. Frendo (54-55). ↩
