Translation

“But if anyone walks haughty in hands [= deeds] or word, with no fear of justice or even reverence for the gods, may an evil doom seize him for his ill-starred pride”. That is, because of profane insolence and pride may such a man be in an evil fate; [someone] who will not abstain from the unholy or who will possess [some] of the untouchables, that is the things one should not own.1

Notes (1)

  1. The headword, evidently extracted from the quotation given, is a neuter plural adjective functioning as an adverb.
  2. 1Sophocles, Oedipus Tyrannus 883-888 (web address 1), with material -- partly rephrasing lines 890-891 -- from the scholia to 888. ↩
