[Meaning] to go to law on one's own behalf, not through someone else.¹
Also [sc. attested is the aorist infinitive] au)tomaxh=sai: when someone lays claim to a house or a plot of land, and the seller is of sufficient means to appear [sc. to be able] to pay the penalty and to settle the lawsuit against the claimant, but the possessor of the house or plot wishes there to be a private trial against the disputant: this is called au)tomaxh=sai.²
