Translation

[Meaning] inebriated.¹
"As he was drunken and half-intoxicated, overwhelmed by sleep [...]."²
Polybius [writes]: "having become drunk and lying prostrate in their tents, all either simply did not hear the command or took no thought at all for what was about to happen."³

Ἔξοινος· ὁ μεθύων. ὁ δὲ ἔξοινος ὢν καὶ ἡμικραίπαλος, ὑπὸ τοῦ ὕπνου διακοπτόμενος. Πολύβιος· ἔξοινοι γεγονότες καὶ κατὰ σκηνὰς ἐρριμμένοι πάντες οὔτε παραγγέλματος ἁπλῶς ἤκουον οὔτε τοῦ μέλλοντος ἐλάμβανον οὐδ' ἡντιναοῦν πρόνοιαν.

Theophylact's story concerns the Persian rebel Zadesprates (cf. alpha 3373), having hidden in a rock tower, imbibing and presuming himself secure from Chosroes II's (cf. alpha 2015 note) soldiers. ↩
3Polybius fr. 40 Büttner-Wobst. Büttner-Wobst follows (519) an emendation of this fragment by Dindorf in replacing the Suda's h(ntinaou=n (feminine accusative singular form of the indefinite relative pronoun o(/stis with attached generalizing particle ou)=n: at all or, perhaps, whatsoever) with the more common spelling h(ntinou=n.
