Ἐξπλοράτωρ

"These imperial scoutes¹ [sc. investigate] both cities and villages and other localities and the majority of the areas and [the] distances and locations of the roads, and what useful things for travellers each place does or does not have a good supply of, and whether they are able to support their population. For it is their job to be inquisitive about the state of affairs and what sort of anti-Roman opinions [sc. are held] by Persians, and to report [these things] to the emperor."
