Translation

[Meaning he/she/it] dressed [someone] in winter-cloaks.1 "Menas clothed and winter-cloaked the army; for the lengthy passage of time and the harshness of the localities had worn out their [sc. summer] cloaks".2

Notes (2)

  1. 1The headword, presumably extracted from the quotation given, is third person singular, aorist indicative active, of kataxlaino/w. ↩
  2. 2Quotation left unidentified by Adler; now Favuzzi [see under alpha 1596] 214-215 finds vocabulary-based grounds for attributing it to John of Antioch. Menas is presumably the pirate chief of pi 2025 and tau 106. In any event, the distinction being drawn here is between the heavy chlaina (chi 335) and the lighter himation (iota 338, iota 339, iota 340). ↩
