Translation

[Meaning] to be ineffective. "[That] ... the one dwelling in the neighbourhood of Tyana↗¹ has missed and thrown away the opportunities."²

Κατηργηκέναι· ἀνενέργητον εἶναι. τὸν δὲ καθήμενον περὶ τὰ Τύανα κατηργηκέναι καὶ καταπροΐεσθαι τοὺς καιρούς.

The headword, presumably extracted from the quotation given, is the perfect active infinitive of katarge/w.
1Tyana (modern Kemerhisar, Niğde Province, Turkey) was an important crossroads city, on the main road between Constantinople and the Near East (Foss, 2130), in Cappadocia, a region in south-central Asia Minor, Barrington Atlas map 61 grid F1. ↩
2Polybius fr. 176 Büttner-Wobst; context (and individual) indeterminable; cf. Walbank, 753-4. The verb katarge/w seems to be more common in late prose and in papyri (LSJ s.v.). Büttner-Wobst notes (537) that Valesius (Henri de Valois 1603-1676) attributed this fragment to Polybius. Although Büttner-Wobst accepts the fragment as Polybian, he observes (ibid.) that Dindorf rejected it. ↩
