Translation

They say this is a particular place where old women spend their time receiving those out to get drunk. Menander in Arbitration [writes]: "will he not wail, after squandering his life in a mothers'-brothel?".1

Notes (1)

  1. Abridged from Harpokration (and Photius) s.v., commenting in the first instance on Dinarchus fr. XLVII.5 Conomis.
  2. 1Menander, Epitrepontes 501-2 Koerte (691-2 Sandbach). The participle katafqarei/s ("after squandering") there has become, in the Suda mss, the garbled kata\ trei=s, "by threes." ↩
