Notes (1)

  1. From Stephanus of Byzantium s.v., citing the C2 antiquarian Phlegon of Tralles (FGrH 257 F18) for the ethnikon.
The city in question -- present-day Niksar -- is more commonly known as Kabeira, in Pontus (modern Turkey). Its names included Cabira/ Neocaesarea/ Diospolis/ Sebaste/ Hadriane/ and presumably from this entry, Hadrianopolis. See Princeton Encyclopedia of Classical Sites (at web address 1); Barrington Atlas map 87 grid B4.
A city of this name in Syria is also attested: Barrington Atlas map 68 grid F2.
