Notes

  1. One manuscript says 'name of a place'; either way, otherwise unattested in this form. However, without much doubt this refers to the river Karesos in NW Turkey (Homer, Iliad 12.20, etc), with the 'Para-' as an intrusive prefix. Compare Hesychius kappa812, 'Karessos: a city. And a river'.
