Translation

Also [sc. attested is the related participle] "being outfitted with" [parhrthme/nos]:1 "with the sword, which he happened to be outfitted with (meaning carrying, wielding), he did away with himself."2

Greek original · Adler’s text

Παρήρτητο. καὶ Παρηρτημένος· τῷ ξίφει, ὃ ἔτυχε παρηρτημένος [ἀντὶ τοῦ φορῶν, βαστάζων], ἑαυτὸν διέφθειρεν.

Notes (2)

  1. The unglossed headword is perfect indicative middle, third person singular, of pararta/w. It must be quoted from somewhere, probably Herodotus 9.29.1 (on the helots accompanying the Spartan troops at Plataiai).
  2. 1Presumably extracted from the quotation which follows. ↩
  3. 2Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable. ↩
