Translation
[Meaning] to shake, to treat badly, to harass.1 They say that once [Pythagoras] was passing when a puppy was being abused. He took pity [on the animal] and this is what he said: 'Stop, don't thrash him, since it is [the soul] of a friend'.2

Notes (2)
- 1Aorist active infinitives, the headword one evidently quoted from somewhere (perhaps Homer, Iliad 1.581). For the concept see also sigma 1265. ↩
- 2For this material see xi 46. ↩
