Notes (2)
- 1Adler cites George the Monk, Chronicon 281.21-23. George in fact follows Basil of Caesarea, Epistles 236.3 (lines 15-27), who is commenting on Jeremiah 22.28-30 LXX: "Jechonias is dishonoured [...] there shall none of his seed at all grow up to sit on the throne of David ..." (The Suda has omitted an essential "not", supplied in translation here.) Jeconiah was very briefly king of Judah in the early C6 BCE, but expelled (with others) by the then king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar II. Despite Jeremiah's curse on his descendants, seen here, one of them was held to be Joseph, husband of Christ's mother Mary (Matthew 1.11). ↩
- 2Theodoret (PG 80, 1637c) on Psalm 93:20 LXX. ↩
