Notes
- Likewise in other lexica, beginning with Hesychius; references at Photius upsilon196, where Theodoridis notes that the headword (accusative plural) occurs in Philo Judaeus (of Alexandria), On Dreams 1.124. See also, in fact, Philo's On the Embassy to Gaius 15.3 and The Special Laws 4.154. (No other instances extant outside lexicography.) In these instances the word is translated by Yonge as 'harbours of refuge', 'places of refuge', 'safe stations'.
