Attic perfect [middle/passive]. [Present] u(fai/nw , [future] u(fanw= , [perfect active] u(/fagka , [perfect middle-passive] u(/fammai . But the Attic-speakers have a habit often with such verbs to turn the consonant before the mu into sigma, [so u(/fammai ] becomes u(/fasmai . But since the Attic perfect never has the same vowels in the first and second syllable, the upsilon is turned into eta, and it becomes u(fh/fasmai .

Notes
- cf. Choeroboscus, Grammatici Graeci 4.2.2.91.5; also in ps.-Herodian, Etymologicum Magnum 785.48, and (according to Adler) the Ambrosian Lexicon.
The headword (first person singular) as well as the third person singularu(fh/fastai and the infinitive are attested only in grammarians and lexicography. See LSJ s.v. for the various forms (web address 1).
