Notes (2)
- cf. generally alpha 1076 (and upsilon 390: Greek literature's best-known sausage-seller is the opponent of Paphlagon/Kleon in Aristophanes' Knights, and Adler suggests [addenda] that this material might come from scholia to Knights 141).↩

At Nisibis (cf. nu 426) in 541 CE, Persians sally from the city, surprise and rout lackadaisical troops under Petros's command, capture the general's standard, and mock the Romans by erecting it on a tower, decorated with sausages; cf. Kaldellis (111-112), alpha 4702, and sigma 400. ↩
- 2For this material cf. alpha 2940.
