- cf. generally alpha 1517.↩
- 1The headword is accusative plural; it is presumably extracted from the quotations given (though it also occurs in Xenophon, Hellenica 5.3.1). For the glossing cf. Hesychius alpha3498, glossing nominative singular
a)mbato/s witha)na/batos andprosbato/s ; Latte ad loc. considers that entry prompted by Homer, Iliad 6.434. ↩- 2Attributed to Arrian's Parthica by the editor of Arrian, A.G. Roos (Studia Arrianea [Leipzig 1912] 15 n.61). The identification is supported by Favuzzi (below) 54-55, on the strength of six parallels in Arrian; and in Favuzzi's view it is incomprehensible why Roos did not include this as a fragment in his 1928 edition. See further, next note. ↩
- 3Quotation not identified by Adler -- but Favuzzi reasonably suggests that it too is from Arrian; cf.
