Translation
[Meaning] an examination. Properly [the one] which the auditors1 bring in [sc. to court] against those who seem not to have led the city well, or to have served as an envoy badly. And the auditors apportion the jurycourts, and anyone who wants [to do so] makes an accusation; and it is referred to the jurors to punish those who have been convicted.2

Εὔθυνα· ἡ εὐθύνη. κυρίως ἣν εἰσάγουσιν οἱ λογισταὶ πρὸς τοὺς δόξαντας μὴ ὀρθῶς ἄρξαι τῆς πόλεως ἢ πρεσβεῦσαι κακῶς. καὶ τὰ δικαστήρια μὲν οἱ λογισταὶ κληροῦσι, κατηγορεῖ δὲ ὁ βουλόμενος· καὶ τοῖς δικασταῖς ἐφεῖται τιμᾶσθαι τοῖς ἁλοῦσιν. ὅτι τῆς ἐλεφαντίνης Ἀθηνᾶς, ἣν Φειδίας ἐποίησεν, ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀναλώμασι ταχθεὶς ὁ Περικλῆς καὶ νοσφισάμενος νʹ τάλαντα, ἵνα μὴ δῷ τὰς εὐθύνας, τὸν πόλεμον ἐκίνησεν.
