Translation

Meaning [he/she/it] baptized. "Belisarios washed the Eunomian with the holy bath, and taking him up with his own hands he made him his adopted son, as the custom is to adopt among Christians."¹

Ἔλουσεν· ἀντὶ τοῦ ἐβάπτισεν. τὸν δὲ Εὐνομιανὸν ἔλουσε Βελισάριος τὸ θεῖον λουτρόν, χερσὶ δὲ οἰκείαις ἀνελόμενος εἰσποίητον ἐποιήσατο παῖδα, ᾗπερ εἰσποιεῖσθαι Χριστιανοῖς νόμος.

1Procopius, Secret History 1.16 (web address 1); on the adopted son of Belisarios, the young Thracian Theodosius; repeated at epsilon 3596, and see also eta 423. Theodosius had belonged to the sect associated with the fourth century Arian (cf. alpha 3834 and alpha 3835) leader Eunomios (cf. epsilon 3598); cf. Kaldellis (6).
