Translation

Also [sc. attested is the aorist participle] ku/yas ["he having stooped"]. Aristophanes is speaking about a beetle: "how the cursed [creature], having stooped, eats."1 Through the expression he is indicating its gluttony. For those humans and animals who most particularly stoop into their food, and stick by it, seem to eat greedily and very eagerly.

Notes (1)

  1. The unglossed primary headword is perfect participle, masculine nominative plural, of the verb ku/ptw; perhaps quoted from Plato, Republic 586A. (Hesychius kappa2119 glosses kekufo/ta with tapeinou=nta.)
  2. 1Aristophanes, Peace 33, with material from the scholia there. ↩
