Notes (1)

  1. The headword, a masculine nominative singular, is presumably extracted from the quotation given. Not attested elsewhere prior to the Suda, it is a compound formed from mic- (connoting mixed, confused, compounded) and a)na/rrous (upward flow). 'Turbulence' is, at best, an approximation.
  2. 1Adler's reference is George of Pisidia, Against Severus '91, 94'. (The Severus in question is George's rival, the Archbishop of Antioch.) However, three lines rather than two seem to be quoted: Contro l'empio Severo 90-91, 94 Tartaglia. On Severus, see sigma 271 generally. ↩
