Translation

[Meaning] he who has an oppressive and guilty condition, or he who is cruel and obstinate, or he who is cruel and hardy, or he who has been overpowered by cruelty, or [sc. conversely] he who is noble, he who can control his shoulders.2 Sophocles [goes on to say]: "it is necessary to school him in the savage customs of his father and to make his nature the same."3 From crops, which, when they are w)moi/, are also rather harsh and [over-]vigorous.
