Notes (5)
- 1The primary headword is present active participle, feminine nominative singular, of Attic
pe/ttw (Ionic/koinepe/ssw ); cf. pi 1383. (The verb is cognate with Latin coquō.) It must be quoted from somewhere -- perhaps Eubulus frs. 1-2 Kock (now combined as fr. 1 K.-A.), quoted by Athenaeus. ↩ - 2Third person plural, present active, of the same verb. (Again, evidently quoted from somewhere -- perhaps Aristophanes, Ecclesiazusae 223b.) The material up to this point is paralleled in other lexica but with the two elements in reverse; see the references at Photius pi827 Theodoridis. ↩
- 3Aristophanes, Plutus/Wealth 1126 (web address 1), with scholion; cf. pi 996. ↩
- 4cf. pi 1384, pi 1391, pi 1392. On the game of tavla, see tau 7. ↩
- 5From the dream-interpretations, in verse, attributed to Astrampsychus (alpha 4251). If the reading
pe/tesqai ('to fly') is correct, this verse has no relationship with eitherpe/ttw orpettoi/ . If on the other hand it should bepe/ttesqai , the meaning might be "to bake (something) well for oneself." ↩
