Translation

By a metaphor from rain-clouds, [sc. this means] those who have been subject to motion, and [sc. are thus] extreme, and violent.1 Antiphanes in Rustics [writes]: "furious/raging, invincible, a bigger deal than you seem".2 Diphilus in Meddler [writes]: "what exactly is it? How furious/raging he departed!"3 The word also occurs in the Prytaneis of Teleclides and the Banqueters of Aristophanes.4

  2. 1Accusative plural of the adjective, evidently quoted from somewhere; see further below, n. 4. ↩

  5. 4Teleclides fr. 30 Kock (32 K.-A.), Aristophanes fr. 243 Kock (254 K.-A.) -- but, after the interposition here of the preceding two fragments, not necessarily (in either case) as accusative plurals. ↩
