Notes (2)
- 1Likewise or similarly in other lexica, and several scholia; references at Photius sigma773 Theodoridis. The second glossing term, a present participle, guarantees that the headword is extracted from a context where it is feminine, i.e. almost certainly Homer, Odyssey 6.32. Compare epsilon 2990. ↩
- 2Theophylact Simocatta, Histories 2.10.13; on the Avar khan's fortuitous escape from a surprise Roman attack (spring 587) in the vicinity of Tomi (Tomis, Barrington Atlas map 22 grid F4; modern-day Constanța, Romania, on the Black Sea coast); cf. de Boor (90-91), Whitby (58), and upsilon 698. On 'the Khagan' see chi 2, chi 3. On the Avars see alpha 18 note. ↩
