Notes (4)

  1. cf. generally sigma 36, sigma 37.
  2. 1The second of these glosses indicates that the headword (an archaic epic noun) is in the accusative case. It is extracted from Homer, Iliad 3.335: see the scholia there, as well as other lexica. Cognates in Hittite and Sanskrit, as well as the compound feressakh/s, suggest that the word originally started with tw-. ↩
  3. 2The headword itself had been neuter. ↩
  4. 3i.e. as opposed to sigma 39. On the variation between single and double kappa, see LSJ s.v. sa/kkos (web address 1). ↩
  5. 4Aristophanes, Lysistrata 1209-10 (web address 2), with scholion; cf. kappa 2301. ↩
